First fully EN 1317-3 tested CRASHGUARD® installed in the Netherlands
Prins Dokkum has recently delivered the first CRASHGUARD® EN 1317-3 crash cushion. This week the installation started on the N9 in Alkmaar. The CRASHGUARD® is a crash cushion which is constructed out of six interconnected compartments with a guard-rail running along each side.
Because of an increasing number of EN 1317 requirements in design and construct tenders, the road safety market demanded products that would meet these European standards. To avoid discussions about the right choice of crash cushions Prins Dokkum B.V. therefor decided to fully test its
CRASHGUARD® . It means that the CRASHGUARD® - next to the lower performance classes of 100, 80 en 50 km/h/R - also has been tested in accordance with the highest performance class of 110 km-h/R. Thanks to several adjustments in the ground rail of the existing Rimob-crash cushion Prins Dokkum B.V. has developed a crash cushion that fulfils the requirements of all EN 1317-3 requirements.
The CRASHGUARD® is designed to limit the impact of a vehicle crashing into a fixed obstacle, e.g. a viaduct pillar. It is constructed out of six interconnected compartments with a guard-rail running along each side. The number of collapsible impact tubes in each compartment increases from the front to the back so that the energy of the impact is quickly and completely absorbed. In a side-impact situation the CRASHGUARD® works as a normal guard-rail whereby the vehicle is guided safely along. The system type chosen depends on the actual road situation and the level of safety required.
